For the middle section of my piece, I want the transition from the natural Caribbean environment into the atmospheric electronic section to feel almost as if the listener’s mind is being transported into another space. The environmental sounds from the opening section will gradually fade into layers of evolving synthesizers and textures, creating a feeling of immersion and transformation. Rather than having an abrupt change, I want the electronic elements to slowly emerge from the natural soundscape, almost as if they are taking over the listener’s perception and guiding them into a different sonic world.
What Software Will I Use?
To create these sounds, I will primarily use Phase Plant by Kilohearts. This synthesizer provides a huge amount of creative freedom when designing sounds from scratch. One of the reasons I enjoy using Phase Plant is its flexible routing system, which allows almost every parameter to be automated and modulated. In addition, the software integrates seamlessly with Kilohearts’ effects plugins, making it possible to create sounds with much greater depth and movement. This workflow encourages experimentation and allows me to discover new sounds without needing a clear starting point.

Another synthesizer that I plan to use heavily throughout this section is Vital. Vital has been one of my most frequently used synthesizers for several years, and because of my familiarity with its workflow, I can create initial sound ideas quickly and efficiently. I intend to use Vital to build the foundation of many of the sounds before processing and developing them further within Phase Plant.

Although Serum is another synthesizer that I regularly use, I have chosen not to make it a primary tool for this project. While it is extremely powerful, I personally find its workflow less intuitive when creating sounds entirely from scratch. As a result, I feel more confident using Vital and Phase Plant to achieve the atmospheric textures I have in mind.
In addition to these synthesizers, I will also use external plugins such as Valhalla reverbs and FabFilter Pro-Q to shape the space, depth, and frequency balance of the sounds. I expect this electronic section to last approximately one minute within the overall composition, which will have a total duration of around three minutes. This section will act as the centrepiece of the track, bridging the natural environment of the Caribbean with the more abstract and immersive electronic elements of the composition.
