For my 3 words related to sound arts, my chosen words I would like to go over are atmosphere, tone, and image.
Atmosphere
The definition of atmosphere is The pervading tone or mood of a place, situation, or creative work. The reason why this word means a lot to me is because when it comes to sound, being able to create a setting purely off of your imagination is something that will always draw me back to the creation of sound. The thought of allowing yourself to materialize a feeling or color by using the power of synths and nature itself to encapsulate that feeling is something that you can only find in sound.
Tone
The definition of tone is a musical or vocal sound with reference to its pitch, quality, and strength. The reason why I enjoy the meaning of this word is that in sound, the tone of whatever you’re creating impacts so much of how that piece of music/soundscape is depicted by people. With tone, you can create whatever emotion you would like within a piece. Tone to me also goes hand in hand with the word atmosphere, as the tone of your piece can affect exactly that.
image
For image, the reason why this connects a lot to sound for me is that along with atmosphere and tone, those two things put together are what can create an image in the mind that allows someone to see exactly what it is that you’re trying to depict. Using instruments, synthesis, or nature to create a story, mood or setting is always done by making someone audibly see an image in the mind. Then from there, it’s up to you whether you would like to expand on that image or take them on a story with it.
